About National Museum of Natural History

  • National Museum of Natural History

This building is now open again following a major restoration project.

Our exhibitions have changed very little in over a century. The ground floor is dedicated to Irish animals, featuring giant deer skeletons and a variety of mammals, birds and fish. The upper floors of the building were laid out in the 19th Century in a scientific arrangement showing animals by taxonomic group. This scheme demonstrated the diversity of animal life in an evolutionary sequence.

The first floor can now be accessed from the original grand stone staircase which has been recently restored. New facilities include the Discovery Zone where visitors can handle taxidermy and open drawers to see what is lurking inside, our Reading Area at first floor level which is a great place to rest and settle down with a good book, and the ground floor is now suitable for wheelchair access.

The best time to vacation in Dublin in order to make the most of your visit has been decided

While we’d argue that all year round is the best time to visit Ireland, depending on what you’re looking for from your vacation, there could be better times than others to travel.

According to Frommer’s, Spring and Fall (Autumn) are the best times to visit Ireland but each of the seasons has its own charm, whether you’re looking to get the best of the weather or whether you want to make the most of a great round of golf.
